Sony F23 Camera (4:4:4 / 1080P / 2/3" B4)

Earlier this month, Sony Electronics officially announced it's "pinnacle of the CineAlta™ acquisition line-up", the CineAlta™ F23 Camera. This announcement comes 8 months after a sneak-peek at NAB 2006, where a prototype camera (codename: NGC-23) was shown behind glass at Sony's booth.

This camera is being marketed by Sony, in conjuction with Band Pro Film & Digital. The F23's most notable features includes the obvious film-camera configuration to the onboard SRW-1 VTR, its hardened B4 lens mount to compliment Zeiss DigiPrimes and Canon EC lenses, variable frame-rate capabilities, 4:4:4 @ 1080/23.98P, 24P, 25P, 29.97P, 59.94P, and 60P, and all of that under 11lbs (5.0kg).

With delivery slated for Summer 2007, and rental pricing expected be in line with existing high-end HD systems, it will be an exciting year for HD / digital cinematography and acquisition.

RentCam expects for this camera and SRW-1 VTR system to compete heavily with the now popular Thompson GrassValley Viper FilmStream™ camera, and its Venom™ flashed-based magazine recorder. Once again, the HD offerings are getting better by the day!
